A History of the North Yorkshire Market Town of Knaresborough
|
This History of the Town of Knaresborough was written by Dr Alyson Jackson. However, very little primary source material was consulted in the preparation of this account - I relied heavily on the books cited in the References and Further Reading (including Historic Knaresborough by Dr Arnold Kellett, and two excellent local histories edited by B.Jennings - A History of Nidderdale and A History of Harrogate and Knaresborough). I am indebted to Dr Arnold Kellett, local historian and former Mayor of Knaresborough who read and commented on the original manuscript. As is the nature of websites, the article has been altered and added to since it first appeared and any errors are entirely my own (or in the consulted texts!). Unfortunately instances of information and images being removed from websites and reproduced without permission is increasing. I have therefore reluctantly had to protect many of the pages in the History Section, including the two pages of Town History, which are some of the most attractive to theft. This means that Find facilities on browsers may not operate, for which I apologise.
