Dr. Kellett is a well-known speaker and writer on the history of Knaresborough and on Yorkshire topics in general, especially the county's dialect and tradition. Former Mayor and head of languages at King James's School, his historical research has won him the Yorkshire History Prize and the Bramley History Prize. He was for ten years editor of the Yorkshire Dialect Society's journal and is a Methodist preacher who has been a finalist in the Times Preacher of the Year competition. He was made Freeman of Knaresborough on 2001.
