Knaresborough Musical Society

We are a small, friendly musical society, formed in 1984, which performs two shows a year at the local Frazer Theatre. We aim to provide opportunities for local people to learn to sing and perform on stage and to form part of the art and culture in Knaresborough. We recently received an "Awards for All" grant to develop our activities.

In 2002 we celebrated our 18th anniversary and our main show was "Irene", performed from 11-15th June. The story is of Miss Irene O'Dare, a young Irish immigrant piano tuner in New York, and how she meets and falls in love with Donald S. Marshall III, a rich American businessman, and it is set against a comic backdrop of the fashion world of the thirties, with many of the laughs provided by Madame Lucy, a "French" couturier from Paris. Although the show is itself not well known, many of the songs are, including "You made me love you", "Alice blue gown" and "I'm always chasing rainbows".

Our current production is "Scrooge, the musical", being performed at the Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough from 13th to 17 December 2005

The Society meets regularly on Monday evenings at 7.30 pm in Park Grove Methodist Church Hall for rehearsals. We are looking for new members, especially men, either to perform with us on stage, or to help backstage.

For further details, please contact our Secretary, Andrea on 01937 590493, or our Publicity Officer, John on 01423 867302.

We look forward to meeting you.
