Conservative win
IT was victory for the Conservative candidate in the Knaresborough East Ward
by-election last week.
John Batt secured 325 votes to take his seat as councillor on Knaresborough
Town Council after the by-election was held on Thursday, January 22.
The results were close in the first three places with Independent candidate, Andy Wright coming second with 297 and Liberal Democrat candidate, Sue Vasey third with 295.
Labour candidate, David Crosthwaite had 46 votes.
The turn-out was 24% of the electorate. Mr Batt now takes his place on the previously all-Lib Dem council and attended his first full council meeting on Monday. The vacancy came about after the resignation of Lib Dem councillor, Smion St John Jones, in November 2008.
