Town council to put new meetings system on trial
KNARESBOROUGH Town Council is to test out a new way of holding meetings.
Currently, the 15-strong council meets once a fortnight at Knaresborough House.
From October 1, the council is to experiment with a new system with full council meeting once every three weeks, still on Mondays.
However, the council will be broken up into two smaller working committees of between six and ten councillors; the Community Services Committee and the Office Services Committee.
Meeting every six weeks, the former group will meet to discuss matters such as leisure, tourism, parks and play areas, community centres, allotments, sporting activities, town twining, In Bloom, the arts, Chistmas lights and town events such as feva and Edwardian Sunday etc.
The Office Services Committee will also meet every six weeks and discuss such as staffing matters, hours, the asset register, risk assessment and in-house concerns.
Members of the public will still be able to attend all the meetings with the usual opportunity to speak at meetings, if pre-booked with the town clerk.
The experimental period ends in March 2009.
A full schedule of meetings will be displayed on the notice board at Knaresborough House after September 22, or contact the town clerk on 01423 864080.
The town clerk, Nicola Kuehn, is now known as Nicola Smith, following her marriage at the end of last month.
